Imagine Sebastien from “The Little Mermaid” singing a merry tune about how delicious he is right before you devour him on a french bread roll. That what the Lobster Roll at Fish Bar is like.
When my girlfriend and I first decided to try Fish Bar (before we ate the food) we were finding it hard to justify spending $20 for a sandwich, even if it is a fancy lobster roll. A sandwich is a sandwich right? NOPE! Find me a better lobster roll. Seriously. I would love to try it, and I might pay $25 for it if it’s, well, better than Fish Bar’s. But it won’t be. So don’t even try.
Singing Sebastien Sandwiches aside, Fish Bar isn’t just a good fish place — I think this is one of the best restaurants in the Lakeview/Lincoln Park area.
From the decadent lobster bisque, to the SpongeBob-inspired crabby patty, to the fried lemons and jalapenos they serve as a side dish (delicious), it’s allll good. And the oysters, ohh the oysters. Fresh, tasty, grit free, served with two sauces. This place gets it.
Also the menu changes constantly based on what ridiculously fresh fish they acquire; you are guaranteed something new and awesome every time you go.
The service is great, every time I have been there the staff genuinely seem like they enjoy serving and are excited about the food. It can be a little hard to get a timely table on the weekend, but they have great seasonal beer on tap so you can get your drank on while you wait. Oh and try the Lobster Roll.
